"Magazine ppl think they're doing something great, like curing polio or putting out something every month tat rivals Moby Dick or The Portrait of a Lady. But come on! Half of a magazine is ads on $100 perfumes tat cost fifty cents to make; ads for skirts and tops and jeans with anorexic, hollow-eyed, pock-marked teen models; ads for $400 shoes and $200 scarves; ads for $40 bras tat cost a dollar to make; and page after page of ads for skin softener, anti-aging formulas, age mollifiers, eyeliner, mascara, lipstick and then products to remove all these other products: nail-polish remover, blush remover remover, concealer concealer, and then products to cover up the remover: blush remover fade cream and on and on and on. When Salk and Sabin came out with the polio vaccine, was it brought to you by Revlon, Estee Lauder, DKNY, Polo, Gucci, Prada and Calvin Klein? And I dun remember Moby Dick having ads for Absolut, or The Portrait of a Lady having a four-colour Mercedes Benz ad on its inside back cover.
And the other half of a magazine is all(or mostly) unimportant nonsense (e.g. Horoscopes), most of which could be faxed in frm publicists and agents: promoting celebrities, exposing unimportant scandals, reviving dying careers or reburying or exhuming dead ones, and then page after page of cheesy fashion spreads with affectedly excited boy models who don't like girls, hugging affectedly bored girl models who probably don't like boys and definitely don't like food. And then the interchangeable advice articles, always with numbers: 10 Ways to Get Back Your 2nd Husband, The 9 Myths About Cellulite, The 8 Sexiest Men in Hollywood, The 2-min Orgasm, and so on. In the business sector, the numbers and words comes at u like the colours in a kaleidoscope: The 8 Sexiest 7 Cellulite Myths About Your 6 Husbands' 5 Golden Rings 4 French Hens...
So y do ppl still work in the magazine world? Cuz it impresses the piss out of ppl when u tell them where u work..."
